Replacing electric window switch 900 1993

I don't want to break any plastic pieces or tear off the carpet...any advice on how to get the switch plate up so I can exchange switches?

I ordered a replacement switch for driver's side window (hoping this is really the problem...the other three work fine)

I went to install it last night and figured out how to unscrew the plastic piece near the door handle (behind the switch panel) but i couldn;t pull it completely up including the switch panel because the piece of side carpet wouldn;t pull off and the edge of the switch plate sits under the carpet trim. It seemed like it was glued.
