It's beginning to seem that my '80 245 DL is starting to show signs of it's age and mileage (442K miles now)...
Problems are starting to mount up, but I haven't been able to find the time (or weather) to get out and take care of them.
The rear end is shot. It's making so much noise that I can't hear my self think while driving... I still need to replace the driver’s side fender and turn signal assembly... I've been chasing a erratic idle for the past month and a half to no avail (I'm thinking the O2 sensor is shot.) The car runs like crap when it's cold these days too. It's also leaking oil somewhere, but I'm not sure where because I just replaced the seals hoping that would solve the problem.
This may not seem like so much, but with the way life is going these days, I don't have the time to take care of these problems between school and work. Even if I did, I don't have a garage to do any of the work, and weather hasn't been all that forgiving lately. On top of it all, I also don't have the money to spend on a mechanic, or even for the parts...
I suppose this is more of a rant then anything, but if anyone has been in a similar situation before, I'd be interested in hearing how you made it out. I could use some advice right about now.
Also, while I'm sort of on the subject of the rear end... Does rear end fluid smell similar to coolant? Reason I ask is because I've smelled that "sweet" coolant scent recently while driving, but it sure doesn't look like my cooling system is leaking... It might explain why my rear end has been making so much noise too.
Thanks as always.
