Almost fixed bad idle 200 1988

I have been stumped about my volvo's bad idle, I finally started trying things. I have an 88 240gl and I read on the FAQ that it was possible to unplug fuse #1 for 15 min. If the car works fine afterwards, it is a bad air mass meter. How true is this, or could it have been something else reset by the ECU?
It idled fine, only problem was that the car wanted to stall when brakes were applied. A little problem starting, but not any more than usual. If I take it to the dealership for a diasnostic, is that even worth it? I have a few other problem with the car, oil throwback is terrible, I want to know exactly whats up with that. I am also having some transmission problems, that I want diagnosed.
