740 GLE - so what dies when? 700 1987

Hello everyone,

After killing my beloved 240 DL two years ago, I've spent this time punishing myself with a Dodge Dart - I believe I have suffered sufficiently and it is time to get another Volvo :-)

Now, I have come across a few more or less beat up 740's, and I was wondering exactly how much punishment can the B230F's and M46's take? For example, I came across '87 GLE (B230F) that had 264 thousand miles on the clock - How long are these things supposed to last before I have to start tearing the engine apart and rebuilding the transmission?

Another question - What's the estimated labour time if I have someone replace a clutch on one of those?

-M.R.

P.S. Does anyone have a stick shift 240 or 740 in Florida that they are looking to sell?
