Cooling fan 700

I noticed some 940 models have electric cooling fans. The "old" fan pulley is still there, but there is no fan. This appears to be a nice improvement. Most 740 models overheated due to poor cooling. Can I instal electric fan on my 1987 740T model ? Also, how can I test the current fan's clutch ? I understand RPMs are varied based on certain conditions. When engine is very hot, and idling, I don't think fan is spinning fast enough.
