Transmission doesn't always want to downshift at low speeds 900

Hi!
My 1992 Volvo 960 runs great, but the transmission is at times a bit finicky. After the car is nice and warmed up, if you slow to take a tight corner, for example... into your driveway, the car doesn't want to downshift into first gear. The guy I bought the car from told me that there is a tranny module that is most likely needing to be soldered and that there is something out here on the forums about this procedure... but I can't find anything about this.

Any pointers, tips, etc. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
