procedure for reading the codes on 740 GL 700

I have been refurbishing a 89 740 GL and almost done.
Can someone please tell me exactly how to access the codes and read them?

I am not sure where the box is and have looked for the into in FAQ without success.
Is there a printout of the codes available for this vehicle?

Thanks for your imput, This board is the greatest and has made it possible for me to fix all the things on this old brick without too much difficulty. And there was plenty to fix!!
