Recently I have noted the transmission to bell housing bolts have fallen out, and when attempting to replace noted possible striping, now confirmed. I have my HeliCoil inserts in hand. The current M41 works flawlessly and the OD only has 70K on it, but the front seal is leaking. I am planning to replace the front seals when the transmission is pulled. I bought a full seal kit for the M41
Also, I had picked up a used M41 unit 20 years ago, I cannot recall if it was supposed to be functional. So I thought the best way to diagnose it is to drive it, so I will be putting it in the 142E when I am working on .(I know I am crossing forums but there is more experience here). I believe the unit had been salvaged in junk yard, the unit has a sprayed yellow dot on the top of OD ( any significance?)
My questions:
1. How do you snap off the internal bar of the helicoil once you are finished screwing it in?
2. Is there any thing difficult about replacing the front seals on the M41?
3. The spare M41 has been stored a long time, could the OD clutch pad have dried out, making it at risk for freezing up the first time it is used? Which oil grade would be most appropriate for the resurection attempt?
I have replaced the clutch numerous times so I am not worried about the M41 swap. What else do I need to do to the M41s before and during the swap? thanks folks
Joel
