No IAC valve and a tampered LH 1.0 200 1982

Brickboarders,

I recently picked up a 1982 245 DL that I'm in the process of restoring. During the course of inspecting the engine compartment and performing a tune-up I found that the my car's IAC valve has been removed and the two vacuum lines from the intake manifold and air intake tube from the air box had been blocked off. So essentially the care is running without an IAC valve. It seems the previous owner of the car did some "creative" engineering to keep the car running. The connector for the IAC is just hanging there. I believe the only idle control the car has is maintaining a certain amount of tension on the throttle cable.

I'm in the process of repairing or replacing the main wiring harness, because it's in pretty bad shape. Not easy finding a harness for a LH 1.0. Anyway, the car stumbles on anything more than 1/2 throttle, but seems to run smoothly otherwise, somehow.

I'm trying to get my hands around what I'm dealing with here. I'm surprised that the car runs as well as it does. What's going to happen when I install an IAC now? Any insight from members of the board is appreciated.
