Central Lock System Failure 900 1997

How would I re-program the remote? I took the remote apart and scraped the batteries to make sure there was a good connection. I can use the remote 15-20 feet away, the lights flash and the alarm system is activated, but no lock occurs. Also there is a lock button inside the vehicle (next to the rear de-fog/mirror heater button by the steering wheel) but that button does not work either... Also the overhead light that should come on when the doors open no longer works, but manually I can turn the overhead light on. I would hate to have to take it to a Volvo Dealer$$$$!
