Replacement of bell housing-'84 240DL w/AW71 auto

After cleaning up my transmission, I noticed a crack running from the flange of the bell housing all the way to the body of the transmission. Can I replace the bell housing with one I can get from a friend who has a discarded transmission of the same type? I think there are six bolts attaching it, but there are seven bolts around a circular plate, which is attaced to the housing. Thanks for your input.
