Intermittent overdrive problems with '93 240 200 1993

Symptoms:

1. Overdrive light is on upon startup

2. Depressing the button on the shifter has no effect

3. Highway driving for 20 minutes or less causes the 4th gear to kick in. If driven long enough and often. The overdrive light will stay off.

4. Overdrive light reappear after a couple of inactivity.

5. If driven only in the city, the overdrive light stays on regardless of how long I drive

6. I am not very handy.

I know there are many threads on this subject. I thought by submitting my unique symptoms, those reading may find it easier to diagnose the problem.
