When did the blower motors change? 120-130

There seems to be two types of blower motors for the newer style 122 heaters. One has a longer encapsulated motor and is covered with a separate bowl-shaped lid to keep the dirt out. The fan itself is a "squirrel cage" version made out of metal.

The other one has a flat mount with an exposed motor inside the heater, and no bowl-shaped cover. The fan is made out of plastic.

I've been trying to look online at pictures of different year models but not made any sense out when they changed. Sizes seem to be about the same and they should be interchangeable, but they obviously look different on the outside.
