high temperature STUMPER!!! 200 1984

Hey bricksters, got a stumper here. After getting my turbo wagon running well, the temp guage wouldn't work. (replacement harness installed). So, I grounded the yellow wire, and the gauge spiked, so, I put a new temp sensor in. There was no coolant present when I pulled the old one out! Now the gauge slowly rises real close to the red line! I'm afraid to drive it at this point. I swapped the radiator out (from one of my junkers), and just this am put the little spider voltage stabilizer in. This made no difference. I've flushed everything and have tried 2 different new thermostats! I finally bit the bullet and put a new H2O pump on, thinking that maybe the impellers were bad (no leaks), but that didn't solve the problem either. Can anybody point me in the right direction? Both upper and lower hoses are warm/hot to the touch. I don't want to ruin this motor!! (B21FT)
Many thanks to all!
