Another 563 brain-ECU bites the dust 900 1991

This is number two or three that has just died. First was on a 90 740 T and this was on wife's 940 SE. Fortunately, the car died in the neighborhood. Typical no fuel pump hum, even after switching relays under the hood. Fortunately, I had a good used unit and 20 minutes later she was back on the road.
Question is: are there better more reliable brains that work with these models? Not a big deal to change, but can be very inconvenient.
