Oil pan gasket replacement........easy or difficult? 200 1986

I must be a glutton for punishment. My '86 sedan with 305K miles on it has the dribbles, oil that is and after 19 years, I can see it's time to do the deed, the oil pan gasket replacement project. My Haynes manual makes it sound like a cake walk compared to other repairs, but in looking back to a post question by fellow Brickboarder, philvo in September of last year, many of you responded with horror in your threads. I know it needs to be done, but should I medicate myself first before diving into this project? Also, is the pan surface flat all the way around, or does it have a "U" shape at its ends, because the gasket I have (from Felpro) makes it look like it would be flat all around (flat meaning if it were upside down on the ground, there would be no gaps).

Please pray for me.....
