Nor sure what ATF to use, any hints? 200 1983

Hello!

I just got a 245 turbo with auto tranny. I am in the process of making the car my daily driver, so I want to flush the tranny. The owner's manual says to use type F, since the car has a lot of miles (250K +) I am not sure wheter to use type F or dexron. Looking through the archives I found a post stating that '83 trannys did not have a drain plug, well, mine does, but it does not have D II stamped on it. Can I assume that this tranny has been rebuilt since it has a drain plug? What would be the symtoms of using the wrong type of fluid?

Tanks in advance for any help.
