steering rack leak... repair or replace? 900 1996

Howdy!

I've been noticing a drop in ps fluid on my 96 964. When I had a look under the car I noticed the rack was leaking. It was on the driver side bellow, where the inner clamp is.

I hear its a 700-900 dollar job at the mechanics to replace the rack. Or can I simply replace the clamp?

Excuse me I know little of how the steering works... is this a general repair, or is it hard to say by just looking on the outside?

this is what i've been looking at... i'm sure the vv design is different: http://www.buy-steering.com/images/1-rack-diagram-700.jpg

thanks in advance for any help
Al
