700/900 series trannie. What does the 'L' mean? 900

I note in the tables for transmissions in Volvos (740/940 series) that there are AW70/71/72 - some with an L at the end.

Does the L mean that it has a lockup? I was under the impression that none of the trans in this series had a lockup feature - thus the mileage suffering.
