genuine volvo 240 hitch problem 200

i was workin on installing a genuine trailer hitch system from volvo for my 86 245 estate. got the hitch system installed, but didn't have the ball mount. it's a 2" receiver hitch, but when i took the one off my truck to put on my volvo, it only went in 1" and wouldn't go any further. so, i called up the volvo dealership here in salt lake city, and they told me that it takes a 2" receiver hitch that reduces down to a 1 7/8 thats tapered.. has anyone ever heard of this before?? volvo wants $100.00 for the ball mount that fits in the receiver hitch of the car. any feedback is really appreciated on this, i'm pretty stumped on this one.
