clarification on the problem 200 1988

the stalk appears ok, as all of the other functions controlled by the stalk still seem to work.

The little "thunk" or "clunk" sound and feel that you get when you normally pull the stalk and switch from highbeam to lowbeam is what is missing. I think that there is some sort of mechanical switch hidden under the steering column that actually controlls the high/low beams, but it also could be somewhere under the hood.

Since I dont know where it is, any advice in locating it in an 88 240 automatic would be very helpful, as well as any fixing and/or cleaning and or replacing on the cheap options would be great.

Thanks!!
