I finished the retrofit job last Monday, dropped my car to the shop for them to vacuum, add freon and check for leaks. The final outcome is mediocre, it can only go down to 48-49 deg. F considering outside temp. last Monday is around 60 deg. F. What happened and what went wrong?
When I went to pick up my car supposed to be, a technician was still working on it. He said that the compressor clutch was not working bec. it wasn't grounded so I need to put one when I get home which I did.
The things he did were:
Outfitted the suction port of the compressor, vacuum the system for 45 minutes, put in 2.5 cans of R134a and an ounce of ester oil with dye. What was the real purpose of that fitting that I connected between the dryer and expansion valve? wasn't that's the filler tube if you do the recharging yourself as indicated in Volvo instructions that the ports on the back of compressor will not be needed no more after the retrofit?
Did that extra ounce of oil/dye that the Tech. added created the problem? who knows how much was really added. Maybe I shld. have empasized not to add any but I thought they know better. My mistake. Any corrective action for this? Can I discharged the freon remove some of the oil somewhere like from the back of the compressor and start all over again by me? Will a new condensor will help?
I could just imagine when summer comes here in Bakersfield,Ca where temp. can go up to low 100 deg. F I think I have wasted my time & money on this. Anyway,
thanks to you all that helped. Regards!
