Question about roof rack and trailor hitches 200 1990

It's a 1990 244Dl.

I need to haul some stuff. I got a set of oem roof racks in the yard off of a wagon but mine is a sedan with a sunroof. Does the roof rack need to be mounted over the sunroof? Can I put them wherever I want on the roof or will their load capacity be limited by where I mount them. I'd hate to have my sky view obstructed by some ugly rails. Is there a best distance of separation between the rails?

Secondly, I'd like to get a hitch. How is the one from IPD? I read something about body types after '86 having some problems with standard mount hitches. What about a wiring kit? Where does that attach? Are there any other sources for hitches besides IPD and the junkyard. Thank you all.
