what to do with it.... 200 1978

hi,
i've been offered (for free!) a 78 volvo sedan.

it's been sitting for 7 years. the story is that it was owned by someone who died. the woman who's offering it is the partner of the person who died. this woman has never had a license, and doesn't need it. apparently it's the sort of thing where she's just let it languish in the garage for the past 7 years...

so she's giving it away. my question is: what to do with it to get it roadworthy again....... i know i'll need a new battery. some have suggested taking out the old gas (supposedly not much in the tank) and putting in fresh gas....... i'm not sure if old gas is dangerous or not....also not sure how to extract the old gas.

i'm tempted to take the car because it could either replace my 83 volvo which needs a transmission leak fixed (if this car is decent).... i was also thinking about getting it running, and then selling it for a few hundred bucks. i can do some work, but i don't do all my own mechanical work by any means.

any thoughts? (especially on basic stuff just to get it roadworthy).

thanks! (i'm kind of excited about it, but also thinking 'what if it is a money-sucking albatross of a car). then i guess i would just give it away, and learn from the experience.

as always, thanks for any input.

:)
susan.
