advice sought: aftermarket roof racks?

My 245 has no factory roof rack. That's ok, I think they're generally trouble. And ugly.

But sometimes I need a little extra room. Or, I'd like to carry the occasional 4x8 sheet of lumber.

Seems the world of roof racks are split into two partitions...

1] Thule/Yakima. The kind you buy piece-by-piece, offer a million bike/ski/canoe adapters, and cost a skillion bucks.

2] Something generically known as "contractor" or "ladder" racks. They're commonly sold for vans, but I can't see any reason it wouldn't fit a 245. I've seen these as cheap as $69 for a pair.

This is more about usefulness than looks or carrying canoes. Is there something I'm missing, or should I just go get a $69 rack?

Thanks,

Evan
