Fuel Guage Intermittent failure

Hello all its me again, My (Sweetie) 1995 960 sedan has two problems, the 1st is a strong fuel odor from the charcoal cannister sometimes. I took it to the dealer and their super doopers sniffer could not find any leaks at all. The other is the fuel level gage is starting to be sometimemy (note the spelling) Is this part of a biggererr problem or am I looking at two different scenerios. Need3 (LIC PLATE #) needs help Thanks for all the help yaw'all
