Head gaskets - opinions on installation?

Quick question for anyone who's done a bunch of B21/B230 heads: is it best to install the gasket dry? I'm aware this is the generally recommended practice and I only ask because a Volvo master technician (now an independent shop for past 10 yrs) who I worked with swore by a Loctite product called, I believe, Hi-Tack. It seems to be essentially a red, spray contact cement/sealant. He applies a THIN coat to each side of the head gasket prior to installation. I've done them with and without using this product, and no failures either way in the short term. Anybody heard of this?
