Rear springs/shocks for 740 wagon, help! 700 1990

We need to replace the rear springs and shocks in our 1990, 16 v 740 GLE wagon. Having called a few parts stores, we are getting confused.
How do I know if my car has self leveling stuff? If I am replacing both springs and shocks, does it matter?

I found the FCP Groton site and called them, and the info I got from them was helpful. But my husband called a few other parts stores locally that said they had the springs for alot less. As we are not going to have this car too much longer (planning to upgrade to a V70) we don't want to sink alot of dough into it. I guess my question for that is, how can I be sure that what we get is what we need?

Are there any other parts that tend to need replacing when this work is attempted?

Thanks in advance,
Darcy
