now for my automatic overdrive question....mmmmwwwwaaahahaaaa 200 1986

alrighty, i've been workin the bugs out on this car and my next problem is overdrive. it isnt working. this is an automatic car so i'm not as familiar with the overdrive unit. is it the same as on the manual shift? I've tried engaging it at different speeds between 40 and 65 mph with no luck at all. when i push the OD button the little arrow light on the dash either goes on or off but nothing happens. is this indicating that the relay is working properly and just not the solenoid? what goes wrong with the auto OD's?
