Leakdown Testing Part 2 (more questins and finds) 120-130

The latest installment!

This just seems to get better and better. Checked the block numbers to see just what i actually have since I couldn't figure out why my B20 engine did not have HIF 6s and a cast iron intake/exhaust manifold.

Wonder of wonders, it's a 8/1968, P122 engine rated at 118 hp SAE. Seems kinda of a lucky draw there! Add an E spec head and D cam and it might be just about all the motor I migt need. The "three bolt" carbs miraculously have the original Id tags too which match my Burlen Fuel Systems book!

Last night I followed a derelict 145 on the "hook" to the wrecking yard last night (really a sad looking little pig) and scored a 75 B20F (K-Jet) powertrain with a J model M41 to boot. Basically, I'd call it a core.

I assume that rebuilding the M41 is feasible as long as the basic parts like mainshaft, cluster gear, Overdrive unit, case, etc. aren't busted in half or burnt up, right?

Shave the F head .040 or so and I have the functional equvalent of an E head, right?

Someone noted that the cam in a K-Jet motor is stronger than a C but not as hot as a D. Worth saving if servicable?

Is cable clutch conversion is worth the effort in reduced maintenance?

So the Box score this week is;

A good 115 hp B20B

A late B20F core,

A "J" model M41

2 nice 122 radiators.

A good(?) BW35 and shifter set up out of a 1800E

2 drive shafts with various flanges to fit large and small flange trannies. another whole box of "stuff".

All for the mighty sum of $300!!

The Suburban died and had to be trailered home by AAA and I saved 40 bucks in gas on the return trip and paid no towing bill!!!! Very cool!!!

The B20B motor seller (George) supplied outstanding home brew lager beers. Thanks George, if you are reading!!! George gets 5 stars for Brewmaster Excellence!

Nice 1800E George has. Got it when he was 16, George is 32 now and the car is still extremely nice and RUST FREE. He just put an M41 in it! Very Sweet.

Couldn't be having more fun If I had sense!!

Mike
