Warning lights flash on and off when gas pedal floored!!!!! 200 1989

I have a 1989 240DL sedan that has served me very well for the last 140,000 miles. I was going to work this morning and since it was dark out I had the lights on. To get into the flow of traffic I had to floor it (something I very seldom do) and all of the sudden all the instrument warning lights flashed on and then went off, of course this concerns me. The car did NOT hesitate or stumble or anything unusual and accelerated briskly, there were no unusual noises or anything out of the ordinary, just the sudden flashing of all the warning lights. I managed to duplicate the warning light flashing on and off later in my drive to work, also again by flooring the gas pedal.

Do I have a bad ground somewhere or is there something else wrong.
