Volvo 240 Rear Brake Caliper Question regarding bracket 200

Are you speaking of the rubber block that some of them have or the piece of cast iron that is actually a part of the caliper? The first one is a vibration dampner and I do not recall any of the cars coming stock with them, I installed a bunch of these back in the day. The other one, as far as I can tell, is one of the many safety features on the Volvo. If you get hit in the ass hard enough there are two structural members that sit on either side of the gas tank that come into play. They are triangular in shape and appear to be stamped. When you get hit these pieces drive forward and transmit the energy into those ears that are cast into the calipers. Now is this just coincidence and those ears are there just to dampen brake vibration and they just happen to be in the way during a serious rear end collision? I do not know but I have seen countless 200's that have either had them sheared off or are still intact and have had those triangle pieces stuffed right up into them.
