I'd try a local locksmith first, even though they can be a trifle expensive.
Do you have any idea whether your car has different keys for the doors and ignition? Hopefully it's one key fits all. Much cheaper that way!
I'm afraid to ask where you live and offer my lock-picking skills. I keep my picks & jigglers in my tool box and you'd be surprised how often they get used!
If you want to try picking it yourself so you can remove the lock cylinder, remember to keep some pressure on the cylinder so the pins, once retracted, will tend to stay retracted while you push the rest of them down.
If you have a thin strip of metal (like a street-sweeper broom tine) bend it to a 90-degree angle and slip the short end into the keyway and put some gentle pressure on it, trying to turn the lock. Use another piece of metal (a stiff wire or another sweeper tine) and rake the pins from the back of the keyway to the front. If it doesn't release after a few tries, release the turning tension and try again.
Jigglers are thin strips of metal in different configurations that you insert into the lock and 'jiggle' up and down while you turn the lock. I get a release after about 2-3 seconds using them.
