Help, Leaking fuel tank vent hose ? 200 1980

Two months ago I replaced the in-tank sending unit, accumulator and both fuel pumps in my daughters 80' 242.
The new accumulator did not come with the nipple fitting. They said it was not needed and to just let the vent hose hang underneath without plugging it.

Now here is the strange part: Everything worked fine for two months but now when she puts gas in the tank it flows out the vent tube underneath as fast as it goes in.
Just started all of a sudden last night when she filled up at the gas station.
$25.00 in gas on the ground…

Any ideas what could cause this?

Thanks,
Dale
