automatic parking gear starter lockout 200 1989

hey guys first post

89 wagon auto with 225k. i'm on a spring trip from home ( alaska) to palm desert calif. and am having a problem with the starter lockout i guess. lately , when in park , it won't fire. but if i wiggle the wires around the shifter hump ( have plastic cover off ) it will start if i wiggle the right wires. but what is ( are ) the right wires i should be concerned with? or is it the switch itself? and can i just defeat this feature and get around the switch? it would be nice to know on my return trip that i wouldn't have to hold my fingers crossed every time i turned the key.

car ran fine on trip and is it weird that i got better mileage ( close to 30 mpg) doing 70 on I-5 than 55( 24-27mpg) on alcan? head your bricks up the alcan in late august early sept and you'll be rewarded with a better road than you thought and some of the most beautiful fall scenery. ignore the 3.35 gal u.s gas prices in canada.

thanks
akwagon
