Throttle linkage for B30E 140-160 1975

Well, now I know why there was this gasket in the trunk. 6 holes on the carboard liiking stuff and 6 staggered holes beneath the others with what look like aluminium around these. The intake/exhaust gasket! With a noticeable leak around the number 6 exhaust header, very loud, I guess I need to replace this gasket. Very straight forward, the green book for 1973(came with the car, thank you very much) has torque specs for the nuts and I thought - easy, just take all of the stuff off on the right hand side of the engine, swap gaskets and rebolt.
Except for the throttle linkage... How can I take that apart? I would like to remove it as one piece where the cable from the pedal connects to the linkage. I would rather not take the cables off. Can the knuckle joints just be pulled apart and later pressed together without hurting them? Or is there a better way. I intended to dismantle the fewest number of parts possible so that it will be easier to reconnect later.
What a great design. If the intake manifold/air cleaner were on the left side it would have make things easier, especially vapor lock. I wish I could compare visually, my engine and electrics with another side by side. There are wires that don't go anywhere, extra plumbing where there aren't any references in the green book photos, and how do I know if the thermostat is stuck open or the sensor is bad? Just buy a new thermostat and if that doesn't work, start looking for a new sensor? Too bad I haven't won the Powerball and could afford the luxury of having a mechanic give it the one/twice over. Oh, well. Learning is half the fun of fixing.

Thanks,
Klaus
