Tranny Compatibility 200 1982

Just curious what tranny's are compatible with what cars. There's a '78 242GL (well, that's what the ad claims) at a dealer around here for "parts only" for $200. If it's standard, i might pick it up to do a tranny swap with my auto '82 242GLT. Can anyone forsee any problems with this?? What about the pedals and such? Will they swap in and out?? I've never had any pre-'80 240 experience, so all comments are welcome/needed!! Are the tranny's in that year any good even????
