needed: one clue. 200

My new 93 volvo 240DL failed the NOx portion (5.11gpm, limit 2.5gpm)of the MA emmisions test. I want to test the O2 sensor, but cannot find where it is located. It should be should be there, threaded into a port for it on the end of the exhaust manifold, right before it connects to the exhust down-tube. But it's not there--just a blank area where the hole should be. I've inspected the whole exhaust, cat forward, and can't find the thing. Maybe I didn't look throughly enough. Won't someone please give me a clue? Thanks.
