I posted about a week ago about a recent problem, but I don't think I've made any progress. 2 weeks ago the check engine light came on. The car has developed a rough idle and rich running conditions. I checked the OBD codes and got 113 and 232. Now, 2 weeks later, I get 231 too. I checked the FPR and have determined that it's working fine. This leaves me with the O2 sensor. I found the sensor, screwed into the cat. I also found the connection; 2 wires for the heater, 1 green wire for the sensor output. I disconnected the output wire and using a multimeter, tested the voltage; it didn't seem to go above .19V the whole time (the engine was warm and running). Now my question is this...
I know that is the incorrect voltage reading for the sensor (the voltage shouldn't remain at a fixed value, especially that low). If I replace the O2 sensor, will this cure my rich running problems or is something else to blame? Fuel economy has been terrible (about 12 MPG) and the exhaust is slightly black and absolutely reeks! I don't want to spend $120+ on a new sensor, just to find out that something else is wrong, causing the engine to run rich. I disconnected the O2 sensor completely and nothing about the way the car runs has changed. I think I have my problem but I guess I just need some reassurance. Thanks guys!
