It's either the switch on the shifter or the solenoid. Try prying off that cover on top of the shifter, then you'll see the two wires hooked up to the OD switch. On the freeway, have a friend touch those two wires together when you are in 4th, it will drop down into OD if it is the switch. Otherwise, it's the relay.

Both of these have gone out before on my 79 242gt, so I'm assuming your problem is exactly the same!
