oil consumption 900

Hello to all. A question about oil consumption. My 940 turbo currently has 15w40 dino oil. I was recently at a volvo dealership I happened to ask the service guy what grade oil I should be using in my car. He said 10w30. I guess my question is if I were to switch 10w30 would I be causing problems for myself, like unusual oil consumption or leaks doe to the thinner oil. Thankyou in advance.
