Sorry...not Volvo, but any ideas?

My apologies in advance - but no hatemail, please... I'm looking for a forum, or some advice, on 2-stroke snowmobile motors. Not exactly my field of specialty, and I've been trying (very intermittently) for a few years to sort out a charging issue on an old Ski-doo; electrical system runs from around 5 volts to over 25 & blows all bulbs upon acceleration. No sign of a voltage regulator, just a rectifier which I've replaced, to no avail. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. Local snowmobile shop won't speak to me except to try to sell me a new machine - no chance, my money goes into my Volvos...and I haven't found any resources on the web yet. I figured with the combined expertise of this forum's contributors, I might find some advice.
Thanks in advance!
-Chris
