740 overdrive problem? 700

First off, hello everyone, i'm tom, new volvo owner in scotland
Just started running my 740 turbo intercooler, and have started to tire of this niggling problem

When cruising after starting journey, i engage overdrive. This occurs smooth and fine. If i disenage and try to reengage after 2 minutes or less, it will rumble and engage, or not at all. over 2 minutes, and it simply will not engage at all. Also i have never had more than 4 hits of overdrive without this happening. Can anyone shed some light?
