IDLE CONTROL VALVE _ HELP_ 940 B200F 900

having been forced to replace the engine on my 1990 940 estate with another B200F engine i took it for a full tune up. however earlier suspicions were confirmed - my idle control valve is on its way out.
i sourced one at GSF but they cost in excess of £100,
therfore, im looking to buy one from salvage but dont know what price i should be paying, or what questions to ask. Is there any point buying 2nd hand? will i just be delaying the inevitable?
any advice / suggestions appreciated.
Also im replacing all sparkplugs - any ideas on good upgrades?
