I bet that could be readily resucitated by a Brickster with access to a pick and pull. First of all, it could even be the trivial tranny mount that leads these Einsteins to think the tranny is going. Then, I would check the tranny fluid level and kickdown cable. If worse comes to worse, AW70s are common or a nice M47 conversion are certainly do-able.
