service engine light 700

On my 88 744 GLE, the service engine light comes on when I start up the car and stays on for about 2 minutes. I've changed the oil and flame trap recently and tried to reset the service engine light by pressing on the "reset button" behind the "80mph" on the speedo. Done it with the car on and off and still no reset. The light always stays on for the first couple minutes. Can anybody help me about what's going on?
