Mystery noise 200 1993

My 245 (209,000 mi) has started making lots of engine noise after bouts of hard acceleration (same behavior twice in the last few days).

After hard acceleration there is alot of ticking, grinding, and squealing noise from the engine compartment (proportional to engine speed; no difference in drive versus neutral). After several minutes, the noise completely goes away (with a few clunking sounds at the end). I have checked under the hood while the noise was still happening but have not been able to identify the source.

After checking previous posts I think it may be one of the following:
- the water pump (it is old and has a little shaft play but no leaks)
- harmonic balancer (haven't done the white chalk test yet)
- timing belt tensioner (don't know the last time it was replaced)
- accessory equipment bearings

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks,
Todd
