Found it to be leaking between tank and fins. Had it rebuilt(rod and repair).
One thing I can say in the nissens favor: it was not a blow out. It developed a very tiny and slow leak, which I was able to nurse along until I had time for the repair. But still, 5 years?
I wonder about 2 possible reasons for this early demise: (1) I had the high pressure blue cap on the system, and (2) about 1 year ago, vehicle was hit a good whack from the side by a monster pick up truck. Collision occured at the front door, and tweeked the front door post just a bit(the post at the front edge of the door). I fixed by replacing both doors with bone yards parts. The leak was just noticed about 2 weeks ago.
Funny thing is, I removed the original radiator (the one with the plastic tanks) as a preventative measure. It still sits, in operational condition, in my garage. I was tempted, for a moment, to reinstall. Im continuing with the nissens because of the extra cooling capacity. It is no longer a $200 dollar part. Its now a $270 part.
comments and observations welcomed.
Also: the 87-740(non turbo) that houses said radiator is at 190,000. B230 purrs, still. Onward!
