240 Exhaust 200 1992

Alright, here goes...

So I was debating whether I should replace my exhaust legit (by replacing all the pipes with Starla/Walker components and welding) but my roommate (who has an extensive knowledge of cars and repair) and I were discussing why the car needs two mufflers if I'm not going to need to pass an emissions test anytime soon... I replaced the front muffler recently and the cat is in great shape.
Has anyone ever tried/seen/done this? Be honest (but go easy) and let me know if this is completely ridiculous or did I just strike gold...

Thanks

ps. I was thinking of either putting a straight pipe from the first muffler under the axle, out the passenger side rear bumper, or maybe just getting a 90 degree pipe and putting out right behind the passenger side wheel...
