Volvo Geniuses Please Help
a. Oil pressure normal
b. temperature normal
c. general feel of the car normal
d. travel speed at time of first occurrence 75 MPH tachometer at 3
1988 740 Turbo 161,000 miles
While on a two hour interstate trip my vehicle started making a noise I never heard before. I stopped to fuel up and immediately got back on the interstate. While accelerating to normal travel speed the car started producing a very hollow ticking noise almost like a spark knock. The noise seemed to originate from the left side of the motor (its only a guess considering I was in the car traveling). I pulled over the next rest area and put some gas water remover thinking that the coincidence was too much to ignore. That did nothing so I got back on the interstate and tried to drive some more. The tick remained and I started losing power dramatically. Barely limping to the next gas station the car was towed home. Keep in mind when offering your diagnosis for this problem that the car has recently had a tune up and a new power stage and a new in tank fuel pump. In addition, the tick only manifested under load not while revved at a park or neutral position. Also, currently the car starts and barely moves and idles, It may be revved and does not sound to bad just produces no power. I called the gas station and they claim to have had no other reports of bad gasoline.
Thanks for your help!
